Fifteen characters, five families

The presets sort themselves into a few natural families once you hear them side by side. The pitch family — Deeper, Higher, Child, Giant, Squeaky — moves your voice up or down while keeping the speed intact, from a subtle shade to full cartoon. The machine family — Robot, Cyborg, Alien — adds the metallic ring-modulated edge that says synthetic. The drama pair, Monster and Ghost, lean on distortion and reverb for menace and distance. The broadcast pair, Radio and Megaphone, narrow the sound the way real hardware does. And Cave and Choir place you in a space, while Sweet simply softens. The fastest route to the right one is not reading this list — it is loading a short clip and clicking down the tiles, since each render takes seconds and nothing is lost by trying them all.

Why the names describe effects, not film characters

You will notice no preset is named after a famous movie robot, villain or talking snowman, even where everyone would instantly know which voice we mean. That is deliberate: film characters and their voices are protected trademarks, and a tool that traded on those names would hand its users a legal problem along with the download. Naming each preset for what it does keeps the output genuinely yours — use it in a commercial video, a podcast intro, a game or an advert without wondering whether some studio's lawyers feel differently. It is a small honesty that costs a little glamour and buys you unrestricted use, and we think that is the right trade.

The strength slider is the whole secret

Every character is a recipe of several effects, and Strength scales the entire recipe at once: at 100 you get the full transformation, at 30 the same character becomes a light colouring of your natural voice, and at 0 the audio passes through untouched. This matters more than it sounds, because the presets are tuned to be unmistakable at full strength — which is often too much for real material. A narration that needs just a hint of Deeper, a prank that lands better when the voice is almost-but-not-quite normal, a Robot that should still be intelligible over music: all of that lives in the 25–60 range. Presets built on reverb, such as Cave, Ghost and Giant, also make the clip slightly longer, since the tail of the echo needs somewhere to go.

Disguising a voice, and when to use the precision tool instead

The recording button makes this a practical disguise workflow: record an answer directly on the page, apply Robot or Monster at full strength, listen back, and download an MP3 in which the original voice is genuinely hard to place — nothing ever leaves your device, which is precisely what you want for a voice that should stay private. Treat it as a strong creative disguise rather than certified anonymisation, though: for anything where a life or livelihood depends on it, layered pitch-and-timbre effects are not a guarantee.
