Which one do you need?
Start from the file you already have. DWG to DXF, DWG to PDF and DWG to image open AutoCAD’s format without an AutoCAD licence — that conversion is genuinely free here, where most sites charge for it, because we use an open engine instead of a four-figure SDK. SVG to DXF, EPS to DXF, AI to DXF and PDF to DXF turn artwork into geometry, and Image to DXF traces a scan or a logo into outlines you can cut. STEP/IGES to STL opens the two exchange formats mechanical engineers actually send each other. Once the geometry is in, DXF node optimizer thins an over-detailed path so a laser cutter stops stuttering, DXF nesting arranges parts on a sheet to waste less material, and Shrinkage scaler compensates a casting pattern by a percentage. 2D CAD Drawpad and the CBCOM CAD Studio let you draw and correct the thing outright.
Common questions
Which DWG versions actually work?
Up to roughly the 2013 format the conversion is very reliable. The 2018 format is hit and miss, and anything newer we advise against: the geometry may come through, but 3D solids and complex objects can break. That is the honest state of the open DWG reader, and knowing it in advance saves you a wasted afternoon.
Can I export a STEP file?
No, and we would rather explain why than fake it. Writing STEP means writing real boundary-representation geometry. A converter that wraps a triangle mesh in a STEP container produces a file your machinist will reject. We read STEP and IGES, and we write STL, OBJ and glTF.
Is my drawing stored anywhere?
The browser-side tools never send it at all. The few that need our server — the DWG family and the tracer — work in a temporary folder that is deleted in the same operation, whether the job succeeded or failed.
